Arriving at the Park

We made it!!! After all the fuss and excitement leading up to this event we have finally settled into our home for the next five days and begun this new adventure.  I believe everyone from our groups rode on Wednesday morning before heading to the Hoosier Horse Park, which made setting up last night quite easy.  I was the second trailer to pull in and we had the park essentially to ourselves to unload, get organized, and hand walk/graze the boys.

The quiet did not last for long though as Thursday brought about the rest of the 3 day horses arriving as well as some horse trial horses.  While we thought we would have a nice, quiet day it only lasted until about 9 am.  Then everything turned into a whirlwind of activity, meetings, and educational portions that ate time and sent us all into a rush going into the jog.  At the end of it though somehow I managed to get my own horse braided, help a couple others from our barn braid, and get myself into a dress (yes, for all of you who know me this is an accomplishment in itself!) and get my horse to the jog strip in one piece.  For a young thoroughbred who was a little shell shocked to go stand by himself he was very well behaved and it was very exciting to hear "Courtney Carson with Bird is the Word for the USA" announced over the speaker, of course it was thankfully followed, after my awkward run, by "Bird is the Word, accepted."  Now it has hit me that we are here, and tomorrow this whole shin-dig really begins!

All 5 horses from the Le Cheval event team were accepted, along with my friends from Chicago, and the other friends from Area's IV and VIII that I know from other events.  I think every horse passed the jog, and with right around 40 horses for the weekend that is excellent! Tomorrow we are right back at it for another long day of showing, so wish us all luck!

Once again thank you to all the organizers and volunteers who have made this event possible and are doing a wonderful job with the education portion.  We could not be here without you! And thank you to all of the support from our crews- both here at the event and at home!
